We are excited about bringing this different form of church to our community and hope that it will attract families and folks of various ages and backgrounds, churched or unchurched, who might not normally be attracted to a traditional Sunday service. “Church, but not as you know it” is their tag line. The basic purpose is “to explore God’s love in a welcoming, accessible way through fun, faith, and food.” Each session has a theme, and starts with four to six activity stations, followed by the storytelling/celebration time, and wrapping up with a meal together.

The theme for our first Messy Church is St. Francis, the patron saint of animals. We’ve identified five activities, ranging from making simple bird feeders, animal fingerprint rubber stamping, making and decorating frames for the St. Francis prayer Lord, make me an instrument of your peace, singing an animal-themed song and playing an animal charades-type game, and learning a breath prayer and using finger labyrinths.
